Raise Children With Grandparents To Instil Indian Values: Former Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma

Rajya Sabha MP Dr Dinesh Sharma on Saturday urged parents and teachers to raise children under the care and guidance of grandparents to help them stay rooted in Indian values and culture.

Speaking at JP Public School in Noida as the Chief Guest of a speech competition, Sharma said grandparents play a vital role in passing down traditions and instilling discipline.

He further added that children learn moral lessons and social values through the stories and experiences of the older generation.

Sharma also took a swipe at the growing trend of cake-cutting on birthdays. He encouraged families to replace it with traditional practices such as lighting a diya, offering prayers, and seeking blessings from elders.

Teach Traditions, Not Just Trends

Addressing students and teachers from 12 participating schools, Sharma highlighted the need to connect the younger generation with their roots. He said that learning about one’s heritage builds character and strengthens community bonds.

The speech competition focused on the topic ‘The Functioning of Various Committees of the United Nations’.

However, Sharma used the platform to share broader views on upbringing, culture, and India’s growth on the global stage.

The former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh praised India’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, “It is a matter of pride that the Indian Prime Minister has been recognised as the most popular leader in the world.”

Stop Brain Drain, Work for India

Sharma urged students to take inspiration from former President APJ Abdul Kalam and pursue their dreams with passion and determination.

“Dream big, work hard, and never give up until you reach your goal,” he said.

He appealed to the youth to stop seeking opportunities abroad and focus on contributing to India’s development.

“Opportunities that once existed only overseas are now available here. Thousands of international students come to India to study,” he added.

Sharma spoke about government schemes such as Make in India, Startup India, and Digital India. He said these initiatives reflect India’s growth in technology, research, and employment.

He also noted the country’s progress in space research and defence manufacturing, calling it a step towards becoming self-reliant.

The event was presided over by JP International School President Commander DJ Singh. Professor Sunil Awasthi, Principal Anjali Malik, and Management Head Virendra also attended the function.
