Railway To Introduce 52 Reforms In 52 Weeks; Security On The Top, Know All About Railway 2026 Resolutions

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday chaired a meeting with the chairman of the Railway Board and CEO, and other officers in Rail Bhawan.

The ministry said the railway is going to implement 52 reforms in 52 weeks, as the railway aims to bring significant changes and major improvements in the new year to enhance its efficiency, governance and service delivery, keeping Security as the prime focus.

In recent years, the rail accidents have seen an exponential fall, and reached 11 in 2025-26, down from 135 in 2014-15. Railway targets the numbers to bring them down to a single digit.

According to the ministry, this year railway aims to enhance security, maintenance and operations through the use of AI and advanced technologies. Along with this, the railways will also focus on employee skilling and talent management to enhance the use of new technologies.

Among these reforms, the railway will focus more on food quality, catering and onboard services, the ministry said.

Railways Reiterated Its Commitment Towards Reforms

Union Minister for State V Somanna and Union Minister for State Ravneet Singh were also present in the meeting. The MoS, President and CEO and senior officers shared their ground experiences.

The meeting inspected the infrastructural development, maintenance and capacity building. Ministry of Railways reiterated its commitment towards reforms, security and technology progress and passenger-based development.

Earlier on Tuesday, Railway said in lieu of affordable fares and growing demand, general and non-air-conditioned coaches are being manufactured in record numbers with motive to provide good facilities while keeping fares affordable for the common passengers.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Railways said that the railways have launched a continuous coach production program for the current and next financial years to further strengthen and modernise its passenger fleet.

For the current financial year 2025-26, which is already in its final quarter, the production plan includes the provision of 4,838 new LHB GS and non-AC coaches (LS coaches – 2817, LSCN coaches – 2021).
