Rahul Gandhi has constantly been in the headlines in the past few days over his disqualification and the press conference followed by that. In his press conference that was organized two days back, he made a statement that said, “My name is not Savarkar, my name is Gandhi. Gandhis don’t apologize to anyone.”
Now, Gandhi is facing the rage of many people on that comment. Even VD Savarkar’s Grandson, Ranjit Savarkar took a dig at him by saying that Gandhi’s comments are childish. In addition to this, he also asked Gandhi to produce proof that Savarkar apologized to the Britishers.
While speaking to the media he said, “Rahul Gandhi is saying he won’t apologize as he isn’t Savarkar. I challenge him to show documents that show Mr. Savarkar apologized. On contrary, he has apologized twice to Supreme Court. Whatever Rahul Gandhi is doing is childish. Using names of patriots to promote politics is deplorable”.
After his disqualification from the lower house of Parliament, that is Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi organized a press conference with the media where he expressed on a lot of issues. He said the above statement at that particular conference.
Many people are coming up to protest against his statement. Maharashtra MPs of BJP protested against Gandhi in front of the Shivaji statue in Parliament.
BJP MP from Mumbai north-Central Poonam Mahajan said Rahul Gandhi can never be Savarkar. “He’s not even a Gandhi…The dirt of anarchy is being spread by Rahul Gandhi – he is not Rahul Gandhi but Rahul gandagi(dirt)”.
Anurag Thakur, a Union Minister, also made fun of Gandhi, claiming that despite his “best dreams,” the Congress leader could never be Veer Savarkar since it required a strong sense of resolve and love for the nation.
The Congress leader during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in November last year said that VD Savarkar used to write mercy pleas to be liberated from the Andaman cells jail and also received a stipend from the British Raj. Even worse, he claimed that Savarkar had aided the British during the fight for independence.
