Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering of farmers in Bihar’s Purnea on the second day of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state. During his speech, Rahul alleged that farmers’ land is being taken away from them and given as a ‘gift’ to big industrialists like Adani. He criticized Prime Minister Modi, accusing him of attempting to reintroduce three controversial agricultural laws to deprive farmers of their rights.
“Farmers are facing challenges from all directions. Pressure is exerted on you when it comes to fertilizers, seeds, and money is taken away from you. PM Modi tried to do the biggest thing – he brought the three black laws and attempted to take away what rightfully belonged to you, right under your nose. It was fortunate that all farmers of the country stood against it and they didn’t step back. Your lives were saved. Otherwise, all of you would have been ruined. I believe farmers are the backbone of the country. But Rs 14 Lakh Crores of Billionaires are waived off… but farmers’ loans are not waived off…,” said the Congress leader during the address.
He continued, “…The truth is that the Government is unable to remove the fear in the hearts of farmers. Farmers have lost their trust in the Government.”
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered its second day in Bihar with a flag-hoisting ceremony to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. Afterwards, Rahul resumed the yatra from Ambedkar Chowk in Araria, Bihar, and stopped at Purnea to interact with farmers. The yatra will proceed to Rangbhumi Maidan in Purnea, where a public meeting is scheduled.
Rahul Gandhi is set to deliver his first rally in Bihar ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on Tuesday. Coincidentally, the rally is scheduled on the second day of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra across the state. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and other INDIA bloc leaders are also expected to address the rally, with Kanhaiya Kumar likely to be present, according to PTI.
