Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani is on a two-day state visit to India, marking his second official visit since March 2015, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Amir, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials, and business leaders, will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday.
Following this, he will engage in a bilateral meeting with PM Modi at Hyderabad House at 12:00 P.M., where discussions will focus on strengthening India-Qatar ties and exploring areas of mutual cooperation.
At 1:00 P.M., an exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will take place, marking a significant step in bilateral collaboration. Later in the evening, Sheikh Tamim will meet with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 7:00 P.M., before departing from India at 9:05 P.M.
In a symbolic display of the strong India-Qatar relationship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed Sheikh Tamim at the Air Force Station in Palam on Monday evening. The warm embrace shared between the two leaders highlighted the deep ties and growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) took to X (formerly Twitter) to emphasize the significance of the visit, stating:
“A special gesture for a special friend! PM Modi welcomed HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, at the airport, as he arrived in New Delhi on his second state visit to India. The visit will further strengthen the bonds of the India-Qatar partnership.”
India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, also posted about the visit, stating:
“Honoured to call on H.H. @TamimBinHamad, Amir of Qatar on his arrival in New Delhi for a State Visit. Value his guidance on advancing our cooperation in many domains. Confident that his talks with PM @narendramodi tomorrow will deepen our close bonds of friendship.”
The visit comes at a time when India and Qatar are looking to deepen their economic, trade, and energy ties.
The discussions will focus on investment opportunities, defense cooperation, energy security, and trade expansion between the two nations.
This high-profile visit will further cement the historic friendship and strategic cooperation between India and Qatar, paving the way for enhanced diplomatic and economic collaboration in the years ahead.
