Radical Sikh preacher and Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament (MP) Amritpal Singh’s brother, Harpreet Singh, has been apprehended by Jalandhar Police in a drug-related case, according to a senior police official. Harpreet Singh and his accomplice, identified as Lovepreet Singh alias Luv, were nabbed by Jalandhar Rural police on the evening of July 11.
Harpreet Singh was arrested in Phillaur for possession of five grams of ICE, a form of methamphetamine. During the car inspection in which the duo was traveling, four grams of ICE were recovered from him. The police are currently investigating the case. Harpreet Singh, aged between 30-35, was reportedly involved in dispatching work within the transport sector. Both Harpreet Singh and Lovepreet Singh hail from Amritsar.
Amritpal Singh is currently imprisoned in Assam’s Dibrugarh district under the National Security Act (NSA). He was recently flown to Delhi on a four-day custody parole to take the oath as a Lok Sabha member. Having contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate, Amritpal Singh won the Khadoor Sahib seat, defeating Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira.

Amritpal Singh, who leads the ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit and has modeled himself after the slain Khalistani militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was jailed along with nine of his associates under the NSA. The 31-year-old Sikh radical secured victory in the Khadoor Sahib seat by 197,120 votes over his nearest rival, Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira.
He was arrested in Moga’s Rode village after he and his supporters, on February 23 of the previous year, forcibly entered the Ajnala police station, breaking barricades, brandishing swords and guns, and clashing with police personnel to free one of his aides from custody.
