Punjab Deserves Double-Engine Government, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday indicated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections independently, stating that the state deserves faster development, better opportunities and good governance, which he said can be achieved through a ‘double-engine’ government.

Addressing a public rally in Jalandhar after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for rail and road projects worth over Rs 5,470 crore, the Prime Minister criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government over governance, law and order, corruption and the drug menace. He also referred to legal cases involving AAP leaders and alleged that extortion, harassment and illegal occupation had become associated with the party’s politics.

The Prime Minister said Punjab’s law and order situation had deteriorated, with gang violence, extortion and drug trafficking affecting the state.

PM Modi asserted that only the BJP could bring investment, employment opportunities and economic growth to Punjab while reiterating that the Centre remains committed to the state’s development despite the absence of a BJP government.

Prime Minister Modi also criticised the Congress over internal leadership struggles and accused the Shiromani Akali Dal of being preoccupied with its own affairs instead of public issues.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated 75 redeveloped railway stations across 20 states under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and flagged off the Kartoli-Ambala and Amritsar (Chheharta)-Varanasi train services.

PM Modi also inaugurated the Daulatpur Chowk-Kartoli rail line and National Highway projects worth over Rs 3,070 crore, including a section of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and the foundation stone for the Southern Ludhiana Bypass.

Before the public meeting, the Prime Minister met Dera Sachkhand head Sant Niranjan Dass and interacted with passengers at Jalandhar Cantonment railway station.
