Pune Metro Pink Line: PM Modi To Inaugurate Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Corridor On November 3

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate Pune Metro Line-3, connecting Maan-Hinjawadi with Shivajinagar, on Tuesday, November 3.

The long-awaited project aims to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion across Pune’s major IT and commercial hubs.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar will attend the inauguration as chief guests.

The ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM at the Badminton Hall, Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mhalunge-Balewadi.

The new corridor will, however, begin passenger services at 6 AM on November 4, 2026.

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari said the 23.203-km fully elevated corridor, popularly known as Puneri Metro or the Pink Line, will connect Maan to Shivajinagar through Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi.

The project has an estimated cost of ₹8,313 crore, including land acquisition and utility shifting.

Authorities developed it under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) public-private partnership model in accordance with the Centre’s National Metro Rail Policy, 2017.

Of the corridor’s 23 stations, 17 will open to passengers initially, with seven operating with only one staircase.

Authorities are developing cycle tracks, wider footpaths, pedestrian crossings and foot overbridges to improve safety and support seamless connections with other transport services.

The corridor has 7.6 MW of installed solar capacity, expected to meet nearly 30 per cent of its electricity needs.

Around 100 women train pilots will operate the metro, while women will make up nearly 50 per cent of station staff, including controllers, ticketing personnel and attendants.

Chaudhari said the initiative promotes women’s empowerment, gender equality and greater participation in public transport.
