Pune Bridge Collapse: Two Dead, 32 Injured In Maval Tragedy

Pune Bridge Collapse: A bridge over the Indrayani River in Pune’s Maval taluka collapsed on Sunday, killing at least two people and injuring 32.

Emergency teams rescued six individuals. Most victims were tourists visiting the Kundamala area. The bridge gave way suddenly, sending people into the swollen river below.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the deaths. He expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.

Taking to X, he posted, “Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic incident of a bridge collapse over the Indrayani River near Talegaon, Indori in Pune district. As per information received till now, 2 persons have lost their lives. My deepest condolences to their families. We share their grief in this difficult time. We stand with the bereaved families.”

“I am in constant contact with the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, CP, and Tehsildar. Some people got swept away, so a search operation is underway on a war footing to find them. NDRF teams are already deployed on-site, and all concerned agencies have been directed to remain on high alert,” the post added.

Rescue teams rush to site

Police, fire services, and NDRF personnel reached the scene quickly. They launched rescue operations. Visuals from the spot showed large portions of the bridge submerged. A crane was deployed to remove debris. Authorities confirmed that 20–25 people were on the bridge when it collapsed.

Rescue workers reported that strong river currents made the operation difficult. “We have recovered two bodies. Search is still on. Families and crowds have gathered at the spot,” a responder said.

Six of the injured are in critical condition. Hospitals are providing emergency care.

Heavy rain and tourist rush blamed

Heavy rains in the last two days caused the Indrayani River to swell. Water levels rose sharply, increasing the current’s force. The Maval region recorded continuous downpours. The old bridge, a popular tourist stop, was reportedly overcrowded when it collapsed.

Kundamala attracts large crowds during the monsoon. Officials believe excess footfall stressed the structure. CM Fadnavis said all agencies are on alert. He confirmed that the Divisional Commissioner has reached the site. Rescue operations will continue until all missing persons are found.
