Prime Minister Narendra Modi Embarks on Two-Day UAE Visit, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming two-day visit to the UAE underscores the robust foundation of bilateral relations and economic collaboration between the two nations.

Since July 2023, there have been five high-level exchanges between India and the UAE, demonstrating the deepening ties between the two countries.

During PM Modi’s previous visit to Abu Dhabi, multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed, spanning areas such as local currency settlement, payment systems, renewable energy, and healthcare innovation.

Similarly, when UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Gujarat, a host of agreements were inked, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.

India and the UAE stand as significant trading partners, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $85 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23. Moreover, the UAE ranks among the top four investors in India in terms of foreign direct investment during the same period.

The UAE’s inclusion as a special invitee to the G20 Summit during India’s Presidency of the grouping underscores the growing diplomatic collaboration between the two nations. Additionally, the formal launch of the India-UAE-France (UFI) trilateral in February 2023 highlights their joint efforts towards regional stability and prosperity.

India’s proactive support facilitated the UAE’s accession as a dialogue partner to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in May 2023 and its membership in the BRICS grouping as of January 1, with India’s backing.

Furthermore, defence cooperation between India and the UAE has witnessed significant progress in recent years. Notably, in January 2024, the inaugural India-UAE bilateral army exercise ‘Desert Cyclone’ was conducted in Rajasthan, symbolizing the deepening military ties between the two nations.
