Prime Minister Modi Honors Lata Mangeshkar On Her 95th Birth Anniversary

On the occasion of Lata Mangeshkar’s 95th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the legendary playback singer, widely regarded as one of India’s most celebrated musical icons.

In a heartfelt post on X on Saturday morning, PM Modi wrote, “Remembering Lata Didi on her birth anniversary. She will always live on in the hearts and minds of people due to her soulful songs.” He added, “Lata Didi and I had a special bond. I have been fortunate to receive her affection and blessings.”

Accompanying his message, PM Modi shared a photograph of himself with Mangeshkar. The image was part of a story by her brother, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, a renowned music composer, published in The Indian Express. Hridaynath reflected on the close relationship between the Prime Minister and the iconic singer, stating, “Lata Didi would always express her pride in Narendra Modi’s achievements as Prime Minister and the positive changes he was making in the country. Didi always said, ‘My brother Modi will lead the country forward,’ and he has done so over the past decade.”

Born Hema Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar was not only a prolific singer but also an occasional music composer. She is celebrated across the Subcontinent, with her voice resonating in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal as much as in India. Throughout her illustrious career, she recorded songs in over 36 Indian languages, as well as a few foreign languages.

Her numerous accolades include the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Bharat Ratna, making her the second singer to receive India’s highest civilian honor. Additionally, France honored her with the Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.

With a career spanning over eight decades, Mangeshkar earned titles such as the ‘Queen of Melody,’ ‘Nightingale of India,’ and ‘Voice of the Millennium.’ She passed away on February 6, 2022, in Mumbai at the age of 92, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire generations.
