On Monday, President Droupadi Murmu interacted with probationary officers of Indian Railways and young engineers from the Central Engineering Service (Roads) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, highlighting their role in shaping the country’s future.
The officers, drawn from recent batches across both services, met the President as part of their training and orientation.
Addressing them, President Murmu said they were entering public service at an important phase in India’s growth, with the country working towards the goal of becoming a developed nation. She emphasised that their responsibilities would have a direct influence on the daily lives of citizens, given the critical role played by transport and infrastructure systems.
Underlining the significance of infrastructure, the President said that railways and road networks are central to economic progress and social connectivity. She noted that improved connectivity can open up opportunities in remote regions, boost trade, and support inclusive development.
President Murmu also pointed out that efficient infrastructure helps lower logistics costs and enhances productivity, while strengthening national unity by linking different parts of the country.
Advising the officers on their careers, she said that their success should be judged by the positive impact of their work on society rather than just numerical achievements. She encouraged them to uphold values such as integrity, accountability, and dedication in their roles.
The President also urged the young officials to remain open to new ideas, continue learning, and adopt innovative approaches in their work. She concluded by reminding them that their decisions and commitment would play a lasting role in the country’s development and public welfare.
