President Murmu Says India On Track To Become Developed Economy By 2047

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that India’s all-round economic growth, supported by social sector initiatives, has set the nation firmly on the path to becoming a developed economy by 2047.

In her address to the nation on the eve of the 79th Independence Day, she said India has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing major economy with a GDP growth rate of 6.5 per cent in the last fiscal.

She noted that in the Digital Age, the country has made dramatic advances in the information technology sector.

The President stressed that despite global economic stress, domestic demand is strong. Inflation is under control. Exports are rising.

Key indicators show the economy is in strong health. She credited this to carefully planned reforms, sound economic management, and the hard work of workers and farmers.

President Murmu said many people have been lifted out of poverty through good governance. Welfare schemes also protect those above the poverty line but still vulnerable. Rising social sector spending reflects this focus.

Digital Growth Driving Inclusion

President Murmu said almost all villages have 4G connectivity, with the remaining areas to be covered soon. This has enabled large-scale adoption of digital payments, making India a world leader.

Digital technology has also strengthened Direct Benefit Transfer, ensuring welfare reaches intended beneficiaries without leakages.

More than half of all global digital transactions take place in India. She said this has built a vibrant digital economy whose GDP contribution is rising each year.

She added that Artificial Intelligence is the next stage of technological growth. The India-AI mission will build capacity and develop AI models tailored for India. She said the aim is to become a global AI hub by 2047, with technology improving lives and governance.

Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Social Welfare

The President said income inequality is falling and regional disparities are narrowing. States once lagging are catching up with front-runners. Infrastructure growth has removed bottlenecks for small and medium industries.

President Murmu highlighted the expansion of the National Highway network under Bharatmala Pariyojana and innovations in the Railways. The new rail link in Kashmir is a historic milestone that will boost trade, tourism, and economic opportunities.

The president said urbanisation is advancing, and the government is improving cities. Metro Rail networks have expanded rapidly.

Under AMRUT, more homes have tap water and sewerage connections. The Jal Jeevan Mission is delivering tap water to rural homes.

On healthcare, she cited Ayushman Bharat as the largest scheme of its kind. She stressed that development must improve ease of doing business and ease of living, benefiting those on the margins.

Self-reliance in key areas has boosted confidence and accelerated the journey to becoming a developed economy.
