President Droupadi Murmu on Friday reiterated that the inclusive and sustainable development of Manipur remains a national priority for the Government of India.
Speaking at a public function in the tribal-dominated Senapati district, she said the Centre has been working closely with local leaders, civil society organisations, and diverse communities to ensure that development reaches all parts of the state.
The President emphasised that special attention is being given to accelerating development in remote tribal areas.
She observed that Manipur’s true strength lies in its rich diversity, encompassing its languages, traditions, and cultural heritage.
Highlighting the harmony between the hills and the valley, she urged all communities to continue fostering peace, understanding, and reconciliation.
The government recognises the aspirations of Manipur’s people and is actively ensuring dignity, security, and expanded opportunities for tribal communities, President Murmu affirmed.
She stressed that their greater participation is essential in advancing national progress.
Referring to the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN), launched in November 2023, the President expressed her confidence that the mission would significantly enhance the lives of tribal communities, especially the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
The scheme aims to bridge development gaps by providing essential services—housing, drinking water, healthcare, education, and connectivity—across 75 PVTG communities in 18 states and one union territory, with support from nine ministries.
President Murmu further noted that the Maram Naga tribe is Manipur’s only PVTG community and assured them of the Centre’s empathetic understanding of their concerns.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peace and prosperity in the state.
The President said the projects inaugurated on Friday would strengthen security, enhance education and healthcare facilities, and improve community infrastructure.
She highlighted the substantial progress made in Manipur’s hill districts in recent years, particularly in national highways, rural roads, electricity supply, drinking water, and educational institutions.
Various livelihood programmes have also been introduced to uplift tribal households, she added.
Earlier, President Murmu received a warm traditional welcome at a Naga village before meeting internally displaced persons affected by recent ethnic violence.
She assured them that the government is working to support education, rebuild homes, expand livelihood opportunities, and create jobs—especially for youth.
On the same day, the President paid floral tributes at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal on the 86th Nupi Lal Day, honouring the women-led uprisings against British rule.
She later offered prayers at the historic Shree Govindaji Temple at the Palace Compound.
