President Murmu Honours Artists At 65th National Exhibition Of Art In New Delhi

President Droupadi Murmu honoured selected artists at the 65th National Exhibition of Art during a ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday. She recognised Grand Prize winners and recipients of ‘Honourable Mentions from the 3rd Print Biennale India, 2026’.

Speaking at the event, President Murmu highlighted the importance of artistic expression in preserving India’s cultural legacy and reflecting its diversity. She further celebrated the creativity that continues to shape the country’s contemporary art scene.

“Through this event, we are celebrating the rich tradition of India’s diverse arts, its creative energy, and its ever-evolving artistic expressions,” she said.

President Murmu described art as a medium that captures cultural identity, contemporary experiences and future ambitions. She noted that artistic expression helps people examine society through fresh perspectives.

“Art is a reflection of our culture. It reflects the memories, experiences of the present, and aspirations for the future. Art enables us to perceive and understand our times and society from a fresh perspective,” she observed.

The President called for stronger links between traditional artistic practices and modern techniques. She emphasised that artists in remote regions need access to contemporary training and new technologies.

President Murmu drew attention to the difficulties artists encounter in obtaining funding, reaching buyers and establishing relationships with collectors. She further welcomed initiatives by the Lalit Kala Akademi and the Ministry of Culture to improve opportunities for selling artworks.

The President urged institutions to make art accessible beyond galleries. She further called for its introduction in educational institutions, public places and wider communities.

“Let us provide ample opportunities to young and emerging artists to develop their talent, explore new mediums, and expand their creative potential,” she said.

The President’s Secretariat and the Ministry of Culture organised the ceremony. It highlighted the importance of preserving India’s artistic traditions while creating better opportunities for the next generation of artists.
