President Murmu Departs For State Visits To Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday emplaned for State Visits to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania, marking a significant diplomatic outreach to Eastern Europe and reinforcing India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with the three countries.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the tour includes the first-ever visit by an Indian President to Moldova and North Macedonia, and the first presidential visit to Romania in more than three decades.

The visit will likely provide fresh momentum to India’s relations with the three nations while expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

President Murmu will begin her visit to Moldova on July 20 at the invitation of President Maia Sandu. She will likely hold bilateral talks with President Sandu, meet Parliament President Igor Grosu, interact with the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address a Business Forum and engage with the Indian community.

India and Moldova are expected to explore cooperation in agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, information technology, and education.

From July 21 to 22, the President will visit North Macedonia at the invitation of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova. She will further hold talks with the President and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, meet the President of the Assembly, address the Assembly, and participate in the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.

Discussions will likely focus on agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, IT and IT-enabled services.

President Murmu will visit Romania from July 23 to 25 at the invitation of President Nicușor Dan. She will meet President Dan, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, senior parliamentary leaders, members of the Romania-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address the India-Romania Business Forum, and interact with the Indian diaspora.

The MEA said Romania is an important partner for India within the European Union, with the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement expected to further strengthen bilateral economic ties.
