President Murmu Champions Development, Security, Harmony In Manipur

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Imphal on Thursday afternoon for her maiden two-day visit to Manipur, a state under President’s Rule since February 13, following prolonged ethnic violence. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla welcomed her at Bir Tikendrajit Airport, where she received a ceremonial guard of honour.

Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, and senior civil, security, and military officials attended the reception.

At a civic reception hosted by the Manipur government at the City Convention Centre, President Murmu emphasised that addressing the concerns of the people of Manipur remains the government’s highest priority.

She asserted that the Centre stands firmly with every affected family, fully cognizant of the hardships caused by months of unfortunate violence.

President Murmu said, “The government is committed to promoting harmony, strengthening security, and supporting Manipur’s developmental journey.”

She added that her administration has undertaken multiple initiatives to improve connectivity, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and rural development, bringing tangible benefits to the state.

During the ceremony, President Murmu laid foundation stones for 14 projects worth Rs 1,180 crore and inaugurated 12 projects valued at Rs 207 crore across Manipur.

People, Progress, Prosperity & Peace

These projects support education, health, sports, tribal development, agriculture, power, and renewable energy. They also strengthen guest house construction, training centres, community and security infrastructure, and Ima markets.

They further promote traditional industries, handloom, handicrafts, urban development, roads, and essential public services.

President Droupadi Murmu highlighted that these initiatives would generate employment, accelerate economic activity, and foster a modern, inclusive Manipur.

President Murmu watched a polo exhibition match at the historic Imphal Polo Ground, Mapal Kangjeibung, one of the world’s oldest polo venues.

Authorities heightened security across Imphal and the Senapati district during her visit.

Various departments coordinated closely to ensure smooth operations. The Kuki-Zo Council welcomed her visit warmly.

On Friday, President Murmu will visit the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex to honour the courageous women warriors of Manipur.

She will commemorate the two women-led movements of 1904 and 1939 that challenged British colonial policies.

Later, she will address a public meeting in the Senapati district, laying foundation stones and inaugurating additional developmental projects to boost regional growth.

President Murmu’s visit underscores the government’s unwavering focus on peace, inclusive development, and social harmony, reaffirming that the people of Manipur remain at the heart of national priorities.
