On Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday honoured Dr BR Ambedkar by offering floral respects at Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar on his birth anniversary. The tribute ceremony took place at the official residence of the Governor, where President Murmu paid homage to Dr Ambedkar’s portrait in the presence of senior officials.
Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat also participated in the observance, along with representatives from both the state and central administrations.
The event was organised as part of ‘Samajik Samrasta Mahotsava’. It is a programme that commemorates Dr Ambedkar Jayanti. It also promotes the ideals of social equality and constitutional values.
Attendees gathered to acknowledge Dr Ambedkar’s lasting influence on India’s democratic framework and commitment to social justice.
Later in the day, the President is set to attend the convocation ceremony of Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar.
Degrees will be awarded to students from various campuses, with senior leaders, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, expected to be present.
President Murmu’s engagements form part of her multi-day visit to Gujarat and Maharashtra from 13 to 16 April. The tour includes academic events and tributes linked to prominent national figures.
On Monday, President Murmu attended the first convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajkot. She addressed the students and presented degrees.
The President will travel to Maharashtra on Wednesday to continue her schedule, which focuses on educational institutions and commemorative programmes.
