Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana Completes 11 Years: Amit Shah Highlights Impact On Women And Youth Empowerment

Launched on April 8, 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) has completed 11 years of implementation. On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the scheme’s achievements, describing it as a major success for women and young entrepreneurs across the country.

Sharing details on the social media platform X, Amit Shah underlined the impact of the initiative through the hashtag ‘#11YearsOfMUDRA’.

He stated, “Under the Modi government, by providing loans without collateral to small traders and startups, self-employment and small industries have been empowered with new strength.”

The scheme has disbursed more than ₹40 lakh crore through 58 crore loans over the past 11 years, according to the Home Minister. He noted that around 12 crore young individuals have benefited from the scheme, contributing to the vision of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He also pointed out that the scheme has granted two out of every three Mudra loans to women, marking a significant step towards gender empowerment.

Collateral-Free Lending Revolution

Before the introduction of the scheme, obtaining bank loans was often a challenging process for small shopkeepers and first-time entrepreneurs.

Complicated procedures and the requirement for guarantees frequently discouraged applicants. The Mudra Yojana addressed this gap by offering collateral-free loans, effectively placing trust in the aspirations and potential of the youth.

A key highlight of the scheme lies in its widespread reach among women beneficiaries. Amit Shah emphasised that the scheme has extended a majority of loans to women, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

This shift reflects a growing trend where women are actively participating in entrepreneurship, supporting household incomes and contributing to the broader economy.

The infusion of over ₹40 lakh crore into the economy has played a crucial role in generating self-employment opportunities. It has also enabled millions of young individuals to become financially independent, with many now creating employment opportunities for others.

The continued success of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana underscores its importance in promoting inclusive growth and strengthening India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
