In Kolkata, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has commenced polygraph testing for six individuals connected to the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.
The testing, which began on Saturday afternoon, is a significant step in the ongoing investigation.
Among those undergoing the polygraph test is Sandip Ghosh, the former and controversial principal of RG Kar hospital.
Also included in the tests are four postgraduate medical students who were present at the hospital on the night of the crime, and a civic volunteer closely linked to Sanjay Roy, the sole individual currently under arrest in the case.
A special team from the CBI arrived from New Delhi to oversee the testing process.
Sources indicate that Sanjay Roy, who is in judicial custody at Presidency Central Correctional Home, will undergo his polygraph test later in the day.
Polygraph testing will likely take a long time because they conduct each test individually rather than simultaneously.
This follows the CBI’s protocol, which involves seeking consent from the individuals before proceeding.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Sealdah granted permission for the tests after receiving consent from all six individuals earlier this week.
It’s important to note that while polygraph results are a valuable investigative tool, they cannot be used as definitive evidence in court.
Instead, they serve as a means for investigators to probe deeper into the truth of the case.
