Political Uncertainty Continues, BJP Meeting Underway In Bihar

BJP leaders in Bihar convened on Saturday to address the political landscape in the state, with speculations swirling about Chief Minister Nitish Kumar contemplating another change in allegiance. State BJP president Samrat Choudhary stated that the gathering was focused on deliberating the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and discussing the current Bihar situation.

The meeting, held at the Veerchand Patel Marg office, saw the participation of BJP MPs, constituting the largest contingent of 17 members out of the total 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. The JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar, holds 16 seats, and the fragmented LJP, now divided between Pashupati Kumar Paras and Chirag Paswan, has six seats within the NDA alliance.

Previously, the party’s state in-charge Vinod Tawde criticized the Congress for allegedly pushing Kumar, the JD(U) president, towards a potential breakup with the NDA coalition, of which he was considered the architect.

Party leaders have refrained from making definitive statements about supporting Kumar, who is anticipated to resign as chief minister before rejoining the NDA. Kumar had left the NDA in August 2022, accusing the BJP of attempting to splinter the JD(U) and orchestrating a decline in his party’s 2020 assembly polls performance.

A senior BJP official, speaking anonymously, hinted at a potential decision on portfolio distribution during the meeting, emphasizing the quest for power lost in the aftermath of events less than three years ago. Until their removal from power, the BJP had a significant share of cabinet portfolios, with Tarkishor Prasad and Renu Devi holding deputy chief minister positions due to the party’s numerical strength.
