Police Officer Killed in Ahmedabad Clash with Bootleggers Transporting Illicit Liquor

In a harrowing incident in Ahmedabad district, a police officer lost his life, and another was injured as their PCR van collided with a car transporting illicit country-made liquor. The event transpired during a chase on Tuesday night, with two bootleggers abandoning the vehicle and evading capture.

The incident occurred near Kanbha village in Daskroi taluka, where a police control room (PCR) van, patrolling the area, attempted to intercept the speeding car carrying contraband. The ensuing collision resulted in injuries to an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) named Baldev Ninama and a Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) jawan. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Ninama succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.

Megha Tevar, in-charge Superintendent of Police, Ahmedabad (rural), provided details about the tragic event. The fleeing bootleggers left behind the vehicle, which contained seized country-made liquor valued at Rs 14,000 in the black market.

A case has been registered under sections 302 (Punishment for murder) and 307 (Punishment for attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with ongoing efforts to apprehend the accused. The police are diligently working to trace the source of the illegal liquor and identify its intended recipients.

Gujarat referred to as a “dry” state due to stringent prohibition laws, prohibits the manufacturing, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. The authorities are actively addressing the incident’s legal aspects while mourning the loss of an officer in the line of duty.
