PM Sanctions Rs 2 lakh Relief After 17 Killed In Nagpur Factory Blast

On Sunday, 17 people lost their lives in a massive explosion at an explosives manufacturing unit in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district, police said.

The Prime Minister’s Office expressed condolences over the loss of lives and announced financial assistance for the victims.

“The explosion at a factory in Nagpur, Maharashtra, is deeply distressing. My condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is assisting those affected. An ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.” PMO stated via X.

SBL Energy Limited factory, a manufacturer of mining and industrial explosives, located in Raulgaon in Katol tehsil of Nagpur district, suffered an explosion.

Officials reported that the impact of the explosion was severe, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.  Responders rushed the injured to hospitals for treatment.

Rescue and relief operations continue at the site of the explosion, where emergency response teams are working tirelessly to clear debris, search for any remaining victims, and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the blast.

Chief Minister Fadnavis’ response to the Incident

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the incident as ‘extremely unfortunate and tragic’. In a post on X, he said he was in constant touch with the local administration. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police reached the spot soon after the incident.

“The incident of the explosion at an explosives factory in Raulgaon in Nagpur district is extremely unfortunate and tragic. I am in constant contact with the local administration. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police have reached the incident site immediately. NDRF and SDRF teams are also at the site. Teams from PESO and DISH have arrived. Rescue operations have been accelerated, and so far, 17 people have lost their lives. I pay heartfelt tribute to the deceased. We share in the grief of their families,” CM Fadnavis writes on X.

The Chief Minister confirmed that 18 people sustained injuries; subsequently, officials shifted them to Nagpur for treatment. He also ordered an in-depth probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched a comprehensive and in-depth investigation to ascertain the precise circumstances that led to the incident, examine potential safety lapses, and determine the underlying cause of the explosion.
