PM Narendra Modi Virtually Inaugurates Indoor Cricket Academies In Manipur And Arunachal Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday virtually inaugurated indoor cricket academies in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh from Gangtok. The initiative marks a significant expansion of sports infrastructure across the northeastern region.

The Manipur Cricket Association unveiled its Indoor Cricket Academy at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India funded the project as part of a broader plan to strengthen cricket facilities among northeastern state associations.

Association secretary Lairenjam Geetranjan Singh described the development as a landmark moment for the state. He acknowledged Jay Shah for supporting the initiative during his tenure as BCCI Secretary.

The academy features three indoor practice pitches, a modern gymnasium, administrative offices, and a swimming pool.

Officials confirmed that the BCCI will cover operational and maintenance costs for two years.

The facility will enable uninterrupted training during heavy rainfall, allowing players to continue coaching and practising locally.

Singh noted that Manipur teams reached five domestic finals in 2025 and secured two Under-19 titles, highlighting strong grassroots development.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated an indoor academy at Doimukh in Arunachal Pradesh.

The facility, developed jointly by the BCCI and the Arunachal Cricket Association, includes advanced practice nets and fitness centres to support year-round training.

PM Modi stated that such infrastructure will nurture regional talent and expand opportunities for young athletes. He emphasised that these projects will strengthen the Northeast’s evolving sports ecosystem.

The Prime Minister launched several additional development initiatives during his official visit to Gangtok earlier in the day.
