PM Narendra Modi Takes Boat Ride On Hooghly River During Kolkata Visit

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent time along the Hooghly River during his visit to Kolkata, where he took a boat ride and spoke about the cultural significance of the Ganga while reiterating his government’s focus on West Bengal’s development.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “For every Bengali, the Ganga occupies a very special place. One can say that the Ganga flows through the soul of Bengal. Her divine waters carry the timeless spirit of an entire civilisation.”

Sharing details of his visit, PM Modi said he spent quiet moments by the Hooghly River as a mark of respect and gratitude towards Maa Ganga.

PM Modi also interacted with local boatmen and morning walkers, appreciating their hard work and daily routines.

The Prime Minister added that the visit was also an opportunity to reaffirm the Centre’s commitment to the progress and prosperity of West Bengal and its people.

The visit comes in the midst of the state’s Assembly elections, with the first phase of polling already completed across several districts, recording a turnout of 92.59 per cent.

The contest is primarily between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Campaigning has intensified ahead of the next phase of voting scheduled for April 29, while counting of votes is set for May 4.
