On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his wishes to the people on the fourth day of Shardiya Navratri, which is observed in honour of Goddess Kushmanda.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “During Navratri, today I offer my repeated salutations to the fourth form of Devi Mata, Maa Kushmanda! I pray to the resplendent Devi Maa, who shines like the sun, that she blesses all her devotees with prosperity and happiness. May her divine light illuminate everyone’s life.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also shared her greetings online to mark the occasion.
Taking to X, she posted, “The fourth form of Mother Durga, Mother Kushmanda, created the universe with her infinite power. Through her worship, we attain mental peace, physical strength, and inner strength, which empower us to face every challenge.”
“On this sacred occasion, may the blessings of Mother Kushmanda fill everyone’s life with happiness, prosperity, and peace—this is my heartfelt wish,” the post further added.
The name ‘Kushmanda’ comes from ‘Ku’ (tiny), ‘Ushma’ (energetic), and ‘Anda’ (egg), reflecting her role in creation and energy. Devotees worship her on the fourth day of the festival.
The Goddess rides a lioness and holds eight weapons and objects:
In Hindu belief, Maa Kushmanda is, however, revered as the cosmic power of the solar system.
Worshippers believe her blessings protect them from illness, sorrow, and shortcomings.
Across the country, devotees gathered in temples in large numbers, with long queues forming from early morning.
Devotees across India celebrate Navratri, which means ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit, with devotion. Moreover, it honours Goddess Durga and her nine forms, collectively called the Navdurga, through prayers, rituals, and festivities.
