“PM Must Apologise”, Party’s Counter To BJP Demands On Rahul Gandhi’s Democracy Remarks

Union Minister Piyush Goyal today stepped up the BJP’s attack on Rahul Gandhi, saying Parliament cannot sit back and watch as a member travels abroad and speaks out against India’s democracy.

Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned shortly after they met, as the BJP and Congress continued their heated discussion over Mr. Gandhi’s remarks for a second day.

BJP’s remarks on Rahul Gandhi

The Wayanad MP is drawing fire from the BJP over his remarks at a London event, in which he said India’s institutions are under attack and a large chunk of Indian democracy had “come undone”.

Mr. Gandhi must apologize, according to the BJP, and MPs from all parties must condemn his remarks. The Congress, however, has trashed the ruling party’s allegations and said “those crushing democracy are talking of saving it”.

A slew of top ministers gathered in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office this morning to fine-tune the ruling party’s strategy in Parliament. The meeting was attended by Union ministers Pralhad Joshi, Anurag Thakur, Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari, and Kiren Rijiju.

“We can’t sit quietly and observe everything. A member of the House travels to a foreign country and speaks out against India’s democracy. I am surprised that some political parties are also supporting him. I call on all parties to condemn how a senior MP attempted to defame Parliament on foreign soil “Mr. Goyal made the remarks in Rajya Sabha, despite opposition from Congress members.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur joined the ruling party’s all-out attack on Mr. Gandhi, citing the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. “He claims that minorities are under attack. What occurred in 1984, when thousands of Sikhs were slaughtered? Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have shielded the perpetrators “He claimed.

Congress backfires on BJP

Shaktisinh Gohil of Congress has filed a breach of privilege notice against Mr. Goyal, Leader of the House. “Mr. Goyal criticized a Lok Sabha Member without truth and was purposefully making derogatory remarks,” Mr. Gohil wrote in his notice.

The Congress member cited instances when the chair ruled that no member could make allegations against another House member. “No opposition member has ever raised a concern about critical remarks made by honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi on foreign soil,” the Congress MP said.

Manickam Tagore, the Congress’ Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, has stated that there is no need for an apology. “The question is not raised. He said nothing inappropriate. The RSS apologizes, but Congress does not. He is correct in stating that the voice of the people is being silenced “.

In a Twitter post, Mr. Tagore quoted the Prime Minister’s remarks from abroad, saying he must apologize for insulting India.”Yes Prime minister Narendra ji must apologize, he insulted India aboard. Like Savarkar he can, he will,” the Congress leader wrote.
