PM Modi’s 11-Year Tenure Marks Historic Milestone In Indian Governance

Crossing a significant milestone in Indian political history, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now served over 11 consecutive years in office, making him the second-longest continuously serving Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru.

His leadership since 2014 has been marked by a strong emphasis on structural reforms, economic resilience, national security, and digital empowerment.

From the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the campaigns of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, PM Modi’s tenure has focused on unifying markets and reducing dependence on imports. These initiatives encouraged industrial growth and a shift towards self-reliance.

In digital governance, India has witnessed revolutionary strides under the ‘Digital India’ programme.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) positioned India as a global fintech leader, while the Jan Dhan Yojana brought millions into the formal banking system, enabling direct benefit transfers with greater transparency and reduced leakages.

Infrastructure & Connectivity

PM Modi’s tenure saw a notable acceleration in infrastructure development.

Road construction under ‘Bharatmala’ and port modernisation through ‘Sagarmala’ reflected a strong push for connectivity.

Air travel became more accessible via the UDAN scheme, and the Vande Bharat Express redefined rail travel with speed and modernity.

National security also remained a top priority. From the surgical strikes in Uri and Balakot to reforms in defence procurement, PM Modi’s leadership underscored India’s proactive defence strategy. The Agnipath scheme further introduced a transformative model for youth military service.

In the social sector, schemes like Ayushman Bharat extended health coverage to over 55 crore people. Housing under PMAY and cooking gas connections through Ujjwala Yojana improved living conditions, especially for the rural poor and women.

On the global stage, PM Modi’s foreign policy stressed strategic autonomy and India’s rising stature.

The successful hosting of the G20 Summit in 2023 and recent visits to the UK and Maldives reflect India’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific and international forums.

PM Modi’s six consecutive electoral victories, three each as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister, underscore his enduring popularity and political resilience.

His tenure has reshaped India’s administrative landscape, centralised governance, and redefined the contours of leadership in the 21st century.
