PM Modi Welcomes Sikh Delegation; Commits To Honouring Sacred Relics Of Guru Gobind Singh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to share his appreciation for a Sikh delegation that visited him in New Delhi on 19th September.

The delegation presented their recommendations regarding the safekeeping and dignified display of the sacred ‘Jore Sahib’, a pair of holy footwear attributed to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “I was very happy to receive the distinguished and accomplished members of the Sikh delegation who handed over their recommendations with regard to the safekeeping and befitting display of the immensely sacred and invaluable holy ‘Jore Sahib’ of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji.”

Sacred Relics of Sikh Heritage

The Puri family has safeguarded the ‘Jore Sahib’—footwear measuring 11 inches by 3.5 inches for Guru Gobind Singh Ji and 9 inches by 3 inches for Mata Sahib Kaur Ji—for over 300 years.

The Ministry of Culture recently conducted carbon testing to confirm the relics’ authenticity and establish their historical value.

Prime Minister Modi underlined that such relics are not only pivotal to Sikh heritage but also deeply embedded within India’s cultural ethos.

He further remarked that these sacred objects would continue to inspire future generations to uphold the principles of courage, justice, righteousness, and harmony as exemplified by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

The delegation was led by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and included eminent members of the Sikh Sangat who have long played a role in protecting these relics. The meeting also carried a spiritual tone, as renowned singer Harshdeep Kaur offered a soulful rendition of the Mool Mantra, filling the hall with devotion and reverence.

Prime Minister Modi, covering his head in respect, listened attentively as the hymn echoed across the gathering, creating an atmosphere of solemnity and deep cultural pride.

Preserving Sikh Heritage

The Prime Minister’s message reflects his sustained engagement with Sikh heritage and his broader vision of preserving India’s diverse religious and cultural traditions.

Moreover, his assurance of safeguarding the sacred relics was warmly welcomed by the Sikh community, who viewed it as a reaffirmation of the government’s inclusive cultural stewardship.

As preparations for the public display of the ‘Jore Sahib’ progress, the meeting stands as a landmark occasion symbolising reverence, unity, and shared cultural responsibility.

The relics’ dignified preservation will not only honour the memory of the Sikh Gurus but also reinforce their enduring legacy in shaping India’s moral and spiritual fabric.
