PM Modi Urges Global Cooperation For Green Hydrogen Promotion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for international cooperation to advance green hydrogen promotion. Addressing the ‘Second International Conference on Green Hydrogen’ virtually, he emphasized India’s goal to become a global hub for this renewable energy source.

PM Modi highlighted that green hydrogen could significantly aid in decarbonizing industries difficult to electrify, such as refineries, fertilizers, steel, and heavy-duty transportation. He stated, “Green hydrogen can help decarbonise industries that are difficult to electrify.”

In 2023, India launched the ‘National Green Hydrogen Mission’ to drive this energy transition forward. PM Modi noted the pressing nature of climate change, declaring, “The world is undergoing a crucial transformation, and it’s time for action.”

India has emerged as a leader in clean energy, fulfilling its Paris Agreement commitments nine years ahead of the 2030 target. PM Modi pointed out that India’s installed non-fossil fuel capacity has increased by nearly 300 percent over the past decade, and solar energy capacity has grown by over 3,000 percent.

However, PM Modi stressed that India remains focused on new energy solutions. He said, “The ‘National Green Hydrogen Promotion Mission’ is boosting innovation, infrastructure, industry, and investment.” He added that the government is fostering partnerships between industries and academia, encouraging startups, and supporting entrepreneurship in the green hydrogen sector.

Moreover, PM Modi highlighted the potential for job creation and skill development in this emerging field. He urged the scientific community to improve green hydrogen production efficiency and explore new research areas.

PM Modi concluded with a call for global collaboration, emphasizing, “Scaling production, minimising costs, and building infrastructure can only be achieved through global collaboration.” He reiterated, “Humanity has faced many challenges, and we have always overcome them through collective and innovative solutions. We can achieve anything if we are together. Let us work to accelerate the development and deployment of green hydrogen.”
