PM Modi Urges Bengal Youth To Learn History Behind June 20

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed to the younger generation in West Bengal to gain a deeper understanding of the events associated with June 20, which is now commemorated as Bengal Foundation Day.

Addressing a gathering in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, PM Modi said awareness of the state’s past is essential for appreciating the decisions that shaped its present identity. He highlighted the contribution of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, stating that his efforts played a significant part in ensuring that West Bengal remained within the Indian Union during the turbulent period surrounding Partition.

The Prime Minister described Bengal Foundation Day as a moment to revisit key chapters in the state’s history. He remarked that the observance allows people to remember the sacrifices, challenges, and upheavals experienced during a critical phase of Bengal’s past.

PM Modi noted that Bengal witnessed communal unrest, displacement, and social turmoil during that period, making it important for future generations to remain connected with historical realities.

Turning to the issue of illegal infiltration, the Prime Minister argued that the challenge had persisted for decades under successive governments. He said the current administration is pursuing measures aimed at strengthening border protection and improving surveillance along sensitive stretches.

According to PM Modi, the government is expanding border security infrastructure, including fencing projects, to tackle long-standing concerns over illegal infiltration and border management. He said the administration has begun implementing long-pending projects and accelerating infrastructure initiatives across multiple sectors.

PM Modi expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state government would help unlock West Bengal’s economic potential and restore its standing as a leading contributor to national growth. He concluded by saying that the aspirations of West Bengal’s people would play an important role in shaping the state’s future trajectory and supporting India’s broader development goals.
