PM Modi Unveils ₹2,700 Crore Infrastructure Projects For Puducherry

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹2,700 crore in Puducherry, marking one of the Union Territory’s largest infrastructure drives in recent years.

The initiatives span urban mobility, rural connectivity, industrial expansion, education, healthcare and sustainable development, aimed at ensuring balanced regional growth.

Addressing a public gathering, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure in both urban and rural areas, stating that the projects would enhance ease of living and accelerate economic progress.

Key announcements included a ₹140-crore flyover to ease traffic congestion, the rollout of electric buses under the PM e-Bus Seva Initiative and the operationalisation of the Integrated Command and Control Centre under the Smart City Mission.

Housing units for Economically Weaker Sections under the CITIIS programme, along with sewerage and drinking water projects, were also dedicated.

In education, he inaugurated the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Block and Ganga Hostel at the National Institute of Technology, Karaikal and launched facilities at Pondicherry University.

In healthcare, he inaugurated the modernised Regional Cancer Centre at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research.

A major highlight was the 750-acre Karasur-Sedarapet Industrial Estate, set to host a Pharma Park, Textile Park, IT Park and an R&D centre of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

He also laid the foundation for 41 rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

The government launched projects under MISHTI, Heritage Town development, the RDSS scheme and the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, reinforcing the Centre’s push for sustained growth in Puducherry.
