PM Modi To Visit Odisha’s Jharsuguda On 27 September After Venue Shift

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha on 27 September and address a large public gathering in Jharsuguda.

The Odisha Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the change in venue from Berhampur in Ganjam district after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast adverse weather conditions.

The decision to shift the event from Berhampur to Jharsuguda came after the IMD predicted the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, likely to bring heavy rainfall to southern Odisha.

Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari had earlier hinted at a venue change, citing safety concerns.

A formal proposal was submitted by the state government to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), suggesting an alternative venue.

Following approval from the PMO, the state administration officially announced the revised schedule and venue on Tuesday.

PM Modi’s Agenda for Odisha Visit

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the Seva Parv programme and inaugurate or dedicate several major development projects to the nation.

The government views his visit as a key milestone in advancing Odisha’s infrastructure and education sectors.

Among the major projects are:

  • Capacity expansion across eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs)
  • Doubling of important railway lines, including the Koraput–Baiguda and Manabar–Koraput–Gorapur sections
  • Inauguration of the Sambalpur–Sarala flyover, expected to ease regional connectivity
  • Nationwide launch of BSNL’s indigenously developed 4G network services

Focus on Healthcare and Skill Development

The Prime Minister will also announce the upgradation of two major medical institutions—MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Burla—into global-standard super-speciality hospitals.

These upgrades are part of a broader vision to improve healthcare infrastructure in the region.

In addition, PM Modi will inaugurate a national skill development programme to enhance employment opportunities for youth across various sectors.

PM Modi’s visit to Odisha highlights the Centre’s continued focus on regional development through large-scale infrastructure, education, healthcare, and digital connectivity initiatives.

The shift to Jharsuguda, while weather-driven, is not expected to dampen the scale or significance of the programme.

With this visit, Odisha looks forward to not only infrastructural boosts but also an increase in political momentum ahead of the coming months.
