On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his schedule with a visit to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, before travelling to Hardoi to inaugurate the newly constructed Ganga Expressway.
According to official details, the Prime Minister will perform rituals at the temple in the morning and later reach Hardoi around midday, where he will formally open the expressway and address the public.
Stretching 594 kilometres, the Ganga Expressway has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 36,230 crore.
Designed as a six-lane access-controlled highway, with scope for expansion to eight lanes, it will likely play a key role in improving connectivity across Uttar Pradesh.
The route links several districts, including Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj, creating a continuous corridor between the western and eastern parts of the state.
Officials state that the expressway will cut travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj by nearly half. It will reduce the journey to about six hours from the current 10–12 hours.
One of the notable features of the project is an emergency airstrip of approximately 3.5 kilometres in Shahjahanpur. It supports aircraft landings during critical situations.
Beyond transportation, the project will likely stimulate economic activity. Plans include the development of manufacturing and logistics hubs across more than 2,600 hectares along the corridor.
Authorities believe the improved road network will lower transportation costs, streamline supply chains, and encourage industrial investment.
Farmers are also likely to benefit through easier access to markets, potentially improving their earnings.
In addition, the expressway will likely support tourism growth, create employment opportunities, and strengthen regional development.
The Ganga Expressway will also integrate with other key road projects. These include the Agra–Lucknow Expressway and proposed link corridors. It will form part of a broader high-speed road network across the state.
Officials describe the project as a major step towards enhancing infrastructure while supporting economic expansion across Uttar Pradesh.
