Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to visit Dera Sachkhand Ballan in Punjab today to commemorate the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidass.
Sant Niranjan Das will host Prime Minister Modi at the dera on the outskirts of Jalandhar, and Prime Minister Modi will spend around 45 minutes there.
Sant Niranjan Das was awarded the Padma Shri on Republic Day for his contributions to social harmony and community service.
During the visit, PM Modi is to rename Adampur’s civil airport after Guru Ravidass Maharaj, recognising the Ravidassia community, which holds significant influence in the Doaba region between the Beas and Satluj rivers.
The area covers 23 Assembly seats, with Dera Sachkhand Ballan directly influencing at least 19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive at Adampur airport around 3:30 PM and will take a helicopter to the dera.
The Prime Minister is also to inaugurate the new terminal at Halwara airport in Ludhiana virtually.
The upgraded civil enclave includes a longer runway capable of handling A320-type aircraft, improving connectivity for Ludhiana’s industrial and agricultural areas. Halwara also hosts a strategically important Indian Air Force base.
The Punjab government has announced the creation of the Sri Guru Ravidass Bani Adhayyan Centre near Dera Ballan, registering over nine acres for the initiative to promote Guru Ravidass’s teachings. The visit holds both spiritual and political significance, especially ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
