Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22, following his two-day tour of Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam. His visit to the Northeast continues his government’s strategic focus on enhancing border infrastructure and promoting religious and cultural heritage.
In Itanagar, PM Modi will launch a series of major development projects, including the ambitious Frontier Highway — a 1,830-km route running along the McMahon Line from Bomdila to Vijaynagar.
The government expects this strategic project to significantly enhance border security and improve connectivity in remote areas.
He will also inaugurate the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP), aimed at developing 122 border villages, many along the India-Myanmar and India-Bhutan borders.
The initiative will provide all-weather roads, 4G connectivity, and electrification, with the Ministry of Home Affairs allocating ₹2,205 crore for the second phase.
The VVP will continue through FY 2028-29 with a total outlay of ₹6,839 crore, supporting border development in 19 states and union territories.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will virtually inaugurate an Integrated Convention Centre in Tawang and lay the foundation stones for two hydroelectric projects: the 186-MW Tato-I and 240-MW Heo projects over the Yarjep River in Shi Yomi district.
From Arunachal, PM Modi will travel to Tripura, where he will inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur in Gomati district, around 65 km from Agartala.
This revered Shakti Peetha, one of the 51 across the subcontinent, has undergone extensive renovation under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism.
The ₹52 crore project, with an additional ₹7 crore contribution from the Tripura government, includes temple restoration and beautification of the surrounding area.
Tripura CM Manik Saha said PM Modi will offer puja at the Kali temple after the inauguration, but he is not scheduled to deliver any public address.
PM Modi’s visit underlines his government’s dual focus on national security through border connectivity and cultural integration via religious tourism.
These projects are not only infrastructural milestones but also vital to ensuring a secure, prosperous, and connected Northeast.
Security arrangements and final preparations are in full swing ahead of his arrival in both states.
