PM Modi To Unveil Rs 3,350-Crore Ladakh Projects: Airport, Strategic Road And More

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and dedicate five development projects worth Rs 3,350 crore in Ladakh through video conferencing on Thursday, with the event scheduled for around 12:30 PM, government officials said.

The projects focus on improving connectivity, strengthening energy infrastructure, preserving cultural heritage and securing water resources across the Union Territory.

PM Modi will inaugurate the new passenger terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, built at a cost of Rs 640 crore.

Spanning 23,800 square metres, the terminal can handle 35 lakh passengers annually and incorporates geothermal energy to improve efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint.

PM Modi will also dedicate the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, built by the Border Roads Organisation. Connecting Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through Zanskar Valley, the route will supplement the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways. It is expected to improve military logistics and access to healthcare, education, markets and essential services.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 9 MW Hanu Small Hydroelectric Project and the 66 kV double-circuit Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi Transmission Line to strengthen power transmission, grid reliability and renewable energy utilisation.

Another key project is India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat, which will protect prehistoric carvings depicting wildlife, human figures and symbols while promoting heritage awareness and responsible tourism.

Under Project Him Sarovar, aligned with Mission Amrit Sarovar, PM Modi will inaugurate 40 water bodies across 40 villages. The initiative aims to conserve seasonal snowmelt and glacial runoff for sowing, irrigation and agricultural livelihoods.

Together, the projects seek to strengthen Ladakh’s infrastructure while supporting its cultural heritage, energy security and rural communities.
