PM Modi To Review Surat Bullet Train Progress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on Saturday. He will review the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR), one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure projects.

At around 10 AM, he is scheduled to inspect the under-construction Bullet Train Station in Surat.

The station is a key node on the 508-km route that will usher India into the high-speed rail era. The corridor runs across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

PM Modi Reviews Surat Bullet Train

It connects major urban centres: Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai.

Of the total length, 352 km lies in Gujarat and the Union Territory, and 156 km of the corridor falls in Maharashtra.

Engineers are building nearly 85 per cent of the corridor (465 km) on elevated viaducts. They are doing this to ensure safety, efficiency, and minimal land disruption.

Authorities report significant progress, with 326 km of viaduct completed and 17 of 25 river bridges in place.

Once operational, the Bullet Train will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to roughly two hours, transforming business, tourism, and regional connectivity.

Officials expect the project to act as an economic catalyst, stimulating investment and development along the entire stretch.

The Surat-Bilimora section, spanning 47 km, is among the most advanced, with civil structures and track-bed laying fully completed.

The Surat station has been designed to reflect the city’s iconic diamond industry, combining modern aesthetics with practical, commuter-friendly infrastructure.

The station will feature spacious lounges, retail units, restrooms, and seamless integration with Surat Metro, city bus services, and Indian Railways.

Surat’s railway infrastructure has evolved into one of western India’s most modern transit hubs. Expansion, modernisation, and multimodal integration have driven this transformation, making it strategically important.

The city undergoes upgrades through the Railway Station Redevelopment Programme.

The project includes enhanced passenger amenities, improved concourse circulation, and better connectivity, complementing the Bullet Train initiative.

The Prime Minister’s inspection will offer a firsthand view of the progress. It will highlight how the project is shaping Surat as a key high-speed rail hub in India.
