PM Modi To Outline India’s Approach To West Asia Crisis In Rajya Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to speak in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, where he will discuss key dimensions of the ongoing tensions in West Asia and explain India’s course of action.

The announcement comes soon after Donald Trump moderated his earlier warning about targeting Iran’s power facilities.

He stated that discussions between Washington and Tehran were progressing positively and decided to extend the timeline for any potential action by five days, hinting at ongoing diplomatic engagement.

A day earlier, PM Modi spoke in the Lok Sabha, where he outlined the wide-ranging challenges posed by the conflict. He pointed out that the crisis has triggered concerns related to the economy, national security, and humanitarian needs.

He further explained that the region is vital for India’s trade routes, especially as a significant share of the country’s crude oil and gas imports pass through West Asia, making any disruption a serious concern.

Focus on Indian Diaspora

Emphasising the human aspect, the Prime Minister noted that nearly one crore Indians are employed and residing in Gulf countries. Protecting their well-being remains a central priority for the government.

He assured that since the conflict escalated, Indian authorities have extended full support to citizens in affected areas. He also mentioned holding direct conversations with several West Asian leaders, who have guaranteed the safety of Indian nationals.

PM Modi stated that more than 3,75,000 Indians have been safely brought back home, including around 1,000 individuals from Iran. He reaffirmed that the government will continue to extend all necessary assistance to those impacted.

Recently, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to evaluate the evolving situation and review steps aimed at reducing risks arising from the conflict.

India remains vigilant as it navigates the crisis, balancing diplomatic outreach, economic priorities, and the protection of its citizens abroad.
