PM Modi To Meet India’s Asian Games 2026 Contingent After 85-Medal Haul

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with India’s Asian Games 2026 contingent at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on Thursday, October 15, at around 04:30 PM. He will address the gathering during the programme.

Athletes, coaches, support staff, Indian Olympic Association officials, National Sports Federations representatives and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports officials will attend the event.

India secured fourth place in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, winning 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. This marked India’s second-highest medal tally at the continental competition, behind its record 106-medal haul at Hangzhou in 2023, comprising 28 gold medals.

India delivered several landmark performances, including gold medals for both men’s and women’s hockey teams.

The country won its first medals in soft tennis and mixed martial arts. It secured its maiden women’s trap gold, a weightlifting silver after 28 years and a Greco-Roman wrestling silver that ended a 64-year wait for an Indian finalist.

Athletics contributed 24 medals, the highest among India’s sports, including one gold.

Archers secured nine medals, including five golds, matching the Hangzhou record.

India swept all three compound team titles. Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav’s mixed-team victory earned an LA 2028 Olympic quota.

India won medals in all five recurve archery events, marking its strongest Asian Games campaign in the discipline.

Kumkum Mohod claimed women’s individual gold and another LA 2028 Olympic quota.

Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win individual Asian Games golf gold, ending a 24-year title drought. She later partnered Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to secure the country’s first women’s team golf silver.
