PM Modi To Launch Key Metro And Infrastructure Projects In West Bengal And Bihar On 22 August

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal and Bihar on 22 August to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects.

Metro Projects in Kolkata

In Kolkata, he will inaugurate a 13.61 km-long newly constructed metro network at 4.15 PM, marking the launch of metro services on new routes.

The PM will also travel on the metro from Jessore Road Metro Station to Jai Hind Bimanbandar and back.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi will flag off the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar metro service at Jessore Road.

Through video conferencing, he will also inaugurate the Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay metro services.

Additionally, a new subway at Howrah Metro Station will be opened.

The new metro sections will significantly improve connectivity across the city.

The Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar line will enhance airport access, the Sealdah–Esplanade stretch will cut travel time from 40 minutes to 11 minutes, and the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay route will connect better to the IT hub.

Alongside the metro projects, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a 7.2 km-long six-lane elevated Kona Expressway worth over Rs 1,200 crore, aimed at boosting connectivity and easing traffic flow in Howrah and Kolkata.

Development Projects in Bihar

Later, in Bihar, Prime Minister Modi will attend events in Gaya where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth around Rs 13,000 crore.

These include road, rail, health, power, and urban infrastructure initiatives.

PM Modi will inaugurate the 8.15 km-long Aunta–Simaria bridge project on NH-31, including a new six-lane bridge over the Ganga built at a cost of over Rs 1,870 crore, easing movement between Mokama and Begusarai.

The project will reduce travel detours of over 100 km for heavy vehicles, boost trade, and improve connectivity to pilgrimage centres such as Simaria Dham.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the four-lane Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama section of NH-31, worth around Rs 1,900 crore, along with upgrades to NH-120, enhancing rural connectivity.

Strengthening Bihar’s energy sector, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Buxar Thermal Power Plant (660×1 MW), built at a cost of Rs 6,880 crore, to improve electricity supply in the region.

Health infrastructure will also see a boost with the inauguration of the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre at Muzaffarpur, which will provide advanced cancer treatment facilities.

Under the Namami Gange programme, PM Modi will inaugurate a Sewerage Treatment Plant and network worth over Rs 520 crore in Munger, while also laying foundation stones for urban infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,260 crore in Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Lakhisarai, and Jamui.

For rail connectivity, he will flag off the Amrit Bharat Express between Gaya and Delhi, and the Buddhist Circuit Train between Vaishali and Koderma.

The visit will also include a Grih Pravesh ceremony for 12,000 PMAY-Gramin and 4,260 PMAY-Urban beneficiaries, marking the handover of homes to thousands of families.
