Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to commence the Lok Sabha election campaign for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra by addressing a public rally in Chandrapur district on Monday, April 8. This rally marks the beginning of Modi’s series of at least 10 rallies in the state, with Chandrapur being the first stop.
During his visit, PM Modi will extend his support to BJP’s candidate from Chandrapur, Sudhir Mungantiwar, who currently serves as the forest, cultural affairs, and fisheries minister in Maharashtra under Eknath Shinde’s cabinet. Sudhir Mungantiwar’s main rival from the Congress party is Pratibha Dhanorkar, the widow of late Balu Dhanorkar, who won the Chandrapur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP’s strategy involves organizing rallies in constituencies across Maharashtra where tough competition is expected from opposition parties. Following his rally in Chandrapur, PM Modi will return to the state on April 14 to address another rally in Ramtek.

Sudhir Mungantiwar expressed anticipation for PM Modi’s visit, emphasizing the importance of engaging with the people of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur on topics concerning national development and constituency-specific issues. He also criticized the lack of development work carried out by the former Congress MP Balu Dhanorkar over the past four years.
Maharashtra holds significance in the Lok Sabha elections with its 48 seats, making it the second-largest after Uttar Pradesh. In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured victory in 23 out of the 25 seats it contested in alliance with the undivided Shiv Sena.
