PM Modi To Kick Off Two-Day Northeast Tour Covering Mizoram, Manipur, And Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commence a two‑day tour of Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam.

In Mizoram’s capital, he will inaugurate the 51.38‑km Bairabi‑Sairang railway line, making Aizawl the fourth Northeastern capital, after Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar, to be connected by rail. He will also flag off three new trains linking Aizawl with Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati.

From Mizoram, the Prime Minister will travel to Manipur, his first visit since the ethnic unrest that began in May 2023. He will address public gatherings in Churachandpur and Imphal.

PM Modi will unveil development projects valued at around ₹8,500 crore, including ₹7,300 crore worth of work from Peace Ground in Churachandpur and ₹1,200 crore in infrastructure at Kangla Fort in Imphal.

Security will be intensified; Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar will lead a review of the situation in districts and border areas to ensure readiness.

Assam Set for Large‑Scale Unveilings

On Sunday, PM Modi will focus on Assam, where he will preside over Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations in Guwahati.

PM will also announce plans for projects exceeding ₹19,000 crore. Among these, he will lay the foundation stone for Darrang Medical College and associated health facilities (worth ₹567 crore) and begin work on the Narengi–Kuruwa bridge and Guwahati Ring Road (₹7,000 crore).

In Golaghat, he will inaugurate a bamboo‑based ethanol plant and will lay the groundwork for a major Petro FCC unit.

PM Modi’s tour will be more than a launch of projects; it will serve as a gesture of support for peace and normalcy in conflict‑affected areas.

In Manipur, under President’s Rule, the Prime Minister will meet MLAs, civil society representatives, and displaced persons.

The drive for development in Mizoram and Assam will emphasise connectivity, institutional reform, and socio‑economic integration of remote regions into the national mainstream.
