PM Modi To Join As Parliament Gears Up For Intense Debate On Operation Sindoor Next Week

After a stormy beginning to the Monsoon Session on 21 July, Parliament will likely hold an in-depth discussion on Operation Sindoor, India’s cross-border military action against terror infrastructure in Pakistan.

Television reports suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to participate in the comprehensive debate in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, 29 July.

The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has allotted 16 hours and 9 hours to the two Houses, respectively, for an in-depth discussion on the operation.

The Congress-led Opposition has been pushing for debate on several key matters, including the Pahalgam terror strike, Operation Sindoor, US President Trump’s ceasefire comments, and the SIR drive in Bihar.

Several Opposition parties have also submitted adjournment notices seeking urgent discussion on these topics, with an emphasis on the Prime Minister’s presence.

The Opposition intends to put the government under pressure by spotlighting alleged security lapses in Pahalgam, the loss of military aircraft during Operation Sindoor, and foreign interference in India-Pakistan relations.

However, the government has expressed readiness to debate all concerns and believes that India’s decisive military action could shift momentum in its favour.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier described the session as a ‘Vijay Utsav’, a celebration of victory, alluding to Operation Sindoor as a symbol of India’s military capability and resolve.

The first three days of the session have seen repeated disruptions, protests, and adjournments led by Opposition benches, leading to a complete washout.

The anticipated debate on 29 July is expected to be both fiery and substantive, with both sides prepared to fiercely defend their positions and confront each other with data, allegations, and rebuttals in the Upper House.
