Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) building in Gujarat on December 17, marking the world’s largest office complex. Part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City, the SDB building is complemented by the newly upgraded terminal building of the Surat airport. Preparations are in full swing ahead of the PM’s visit.
In July, Mahesh Gadhavi, CEO of Surat Diamond Bourse, emphasized the grandeur of the project, stating, “This is the largest office building in the world, with over 4,500 diamond trading offices. It will facilitate the trading of rough diamonds and the sale of polished diamonds, creating a world-class infrastructure. The building aims to generate around 1.5 lakh employment opportunities and is designed to be future-proof, meeting the needs of both the present and future. With features such as fibre activity 4,000 cameras, and state-of-the-art control rooms, security is a top priority”

Situated in Khajod village near Surat city, the SDB building boasts over 67 lakh square feet of floor area, surpassing the Pentagon in size. Valued at approximately Rs 3,000 crore, the building houses nearly 4,500 diamond trading offices. Spanning 35.54 acres within DREAM City, the megastructure comprises nine towers with ground plus 15 floors, offering office spaces ranging from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft.
