PM Modi To Inaugurate Redeveloped Jaisalmer Railway Station Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the newly redeveloped Jaisalmer Railway Station on Friday under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Built at a cost of nearly Rs 140 crore, the upgraded station combines Jaisalmer’s iconic architectural heritage with modern passenger amenities.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Jaisalmer MLA Chhotu Singh Bhati will attend the inauguration ceremony.

The new three-storey station building showcases Jaisalmer’s renowned golden-yellow sandstone, creating the appearance of a traditional palace while preserving the city’s distinctive architectural legacy.

According to Hitesh Yadav, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jodhpur, the redevelopment reflects Jaisalmer’s culture while delivering world-class infrastructure for travellers.

The station now offers 10 lifts, 10 escalators, two six-metre-wide foot overbridges, a modern waiting lounge, over 10,000 square metres of platform roofing, retiring rooms, spacious entry and exit gates, parking facilities and dedicated amenities for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers.

Commercial shops, retail spaces and a proposed rail coach restaurant will further enhance the visitor experience.

Railway authorities expect the station to generate nearly Rs 50 lakh annually through commercial activities, apart from ticket revenue.

Tourism entrepreneur Mayank Bhatia of the Priya Group said the redevelopment would improve travel for the lakhs of domestic and international tourists visiting Jaisalmer every year while supporting local businesses.

Jaisalmer Railway Station is among 75 redeveloped stations that Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate simultaneously across India under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Five railway stations from Rajasthan are part of the nationwide initiative.

Railway officials believe the project will strengthen tourism, improve passenger convenience and preserve Jaisalmer’s celebrated architectural heritage.
