PM Modi To Dedicate Rs 1,200 Crore Healthcare Projects At PGIMER Chandigarh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate nearly Rs 1,200 crore worth of healthcare infrastructure projects at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, during his visit on July 17.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre, besides laying the foundation stone of a 150-bed Critical Care Hospital Block under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission.

The projects are expected to significantly enhance tertiary healthcare, medical education and advanced research across northern India.

PGIMER Director Prof Vivek Lal described the occasion as a defining milestone for the institute, saying, “The forthcoming visit of the Prime Minister marks a defining milestone in PGIMER’s journey. These centres are not merely new buildings; they represent a transformational leap in our ability to deliver advanced, accessible and affordable healthcare to millions of patients across northern India.”

Reiterating the institute’s commitment to patient care, Prof Vivek Lal added, “Our guiding principle has always been simple — patient care, patient care and patient care. Every new facility we create is to strengthen that commitment and ensure that patients receive world-class treatment with dignity, compassion and the latest medical technology.”

Built for Rs 505 crore, the 300-bed Advanced Mother and Child Centre features advanced neonatal intensive care units, modular operation theatres and integrated maternal and neonatal services. It will likely handle more than 6,000 high-risk deliveries annually.

Prof Lal also acknowledged the Infosys Foundation’s Rs 147 crore contribution towards advanced medical equipment, calling it a significant public-private partnership.

The 300-bed Advanced Neurosciences Centre will house neurology, neurosurgery and related specialities under one roof, while the proposed Rs 244 crore Critical Care Hospital Block will strengthen emergency preparedness and multidisciplinary critical care services.
