Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the distribution of the 20th instalment of the PM‑KISAN scheme in Varanasi on 2 August.
The scheme, launched in February 2019, provides Rs 6,000 annually—transferred in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each—directly into eligible land-holding farmers’ bank accounts.
A high-level meeting chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan finalised arrangements for this nationwide campaign.
Events will be held across all states, drawing participation from lakhs of farmers and public representatives, including Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, MPs, and MLAs.
The meeting featured a virtual coordination session with 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, over 100 ICAR institutes, and agricultural university officials.
Minister Chouhan called the scheme a ‘historic success’, emphasising its role in directly boosting farmers’ incomes.
He described the outreach as both financial support and a mission to empower farmers through awareness.
The upcoming instalment—amounting to approximately Rs 20,500 crore—will benefit nearly 9.7 crore farmers nationwide.
Officials are mobilising rural networks such as Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, Bank Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches to ensure widespread participation and awareness.
“I appeal to all farmer brothers and sisters to actively join these programmes on August 2 and make this a festival of gratitude and empowerment,” Minister Chouhan urged.
Union Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr Mangi Lal Jat, and other senior officials also participated, discussing logistics and promotional tactics to ensure seamless execution.
Since its inception, PM‑KISAN has disbursed over Rs 3.69 lakh crore across 19 instalments, directly credited to beneficiaries under DBT, with no intermediaries.
On 24 February, PM Modi released the 19th instalment in Bhagalpur, Bihar, aiding more than 9.8 crore farmers, including 2.41 crore women, with over Rs 22,000 crore transferred.
The forthcoming instalment continues the government’s effort to support farmers through consistent, direct cash assistance and grassroots-level mobilisation.
Scaling engagement with rural influencers and technology-enabled beneficiaries verification ensures maximal reach and impact.
