PM Modi
Ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Meghalaya, Prime Minister Modi is set to visit poll-bound Meghalaya today. The prime minister will also address an election rally in Tura on Friday.
PM’s visit to Meghalaya will be for the first time in 2023.
Taking notes from the itinerary, PM Modi is set to hold a roadshow at around 11 AM as a part of the election campaign in Shillong where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hopes to secure a large vote share. Also, he will meet the BJP leaders of Meghalaya today.
After the roadshow, the PM will fly to Tura in the West Garo Hills district in the afternoon. He will address a rally at the BCCI-funded Alotgre stadium.
According to the BJP officials, their election plan has been development and employment in a state with little of either.
On February 15, BJP president JP Nadda released the party’s election manifesto ‘eMpowered Meghalaya’ in the state capital Shillong. The manifesto promises implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in Meghalaya and the timely disbursal of salaries of government employees and many other promises in favour of the state.
While defining ‘eMpowered Meghalaya,’ the party president said that the ‘M’ in its name signifies “Modi for Meghalaya.”
Addressing at the unveiling of the party’s poll pledges, he said the potential of the Northeast state, which is rich in culture and tradition, hasn’t been suitably harnessed and utilized to date. He said there is a lot to be done in the state as there is plenty of scope for development.
Moreover, he said, “Corruption is also a major issue, which has posed a hindrance to the development of Meghalaya.” “We need to raise visions of Mega Meghalaya, we have to think big. Speed, scale and skill, all have to come together if we are to take Meghalaya to its promised state,” the party president said.
