PM Modi Speaks To UAE President, Condemns Attacks And Reaffirms India’s Solidarity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a telephonic conversation with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which he strongly condemned the recent attacks on the Gulf nation and conveyed India’s solidarity at what he termed a difficult time.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he expressed condolences for the lives lost and reaffirmed India’s unwavering support for the UAE.

“Spoke with President of the UAE, my brother Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Strongly condemned the attacks on the UAE and condoled the loss of lives in these attacks. India stands in solidarity with the UAE in these difficult times,” PM Modi said.

Support for Indian Community, Call for De-escalation

During the conversation, the Prime Minister also thanked the UAE leadership for ensuring the safety and well-being of the large Indian diaspora residing in the country.

“Thanked him for taking care of the Indian community living in the UAE. We support de-escalation, regional peace, security and stability,” he added.

India and the UAE maintain close strategic and economic ties, with cooperation spanning trade, energy, defence, counter-terrorism and diaspora engagement. The UAE hosts one of the largest Indian expatriate communities globally, contributing significantly to strong people-to-people relations between the two nations.

Further details of the exchange between the two leaders were not immediately available.

High-Level Security Review in Delhi

The Prime Minister’s outreach came amid heightened tensions across parts of West Asia, with several nations on alert following recent developments in the region.

Later in the evening, PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in the national capital, according to government sources. The CCS, the apex decision-making body on security and strategic affairs, convened against the backdrop of a rapidly worsening geopolitical situation in the Middle East.

The meeting followed coordinated US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which have escalated regional tensions and raised global security concerns.

Escalating West Asia Crisis

The urgent meeting of the CCS is being viewed as a response to fast-moving developments in West Asia, including US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets and subsequent retaliatory actions.

Reports have indicated the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the escalations, intensifying concerns of a wider regional conflict.
